Disable Indexing Service In Windows Vista
Article
A quick Microsoft Windows Vista performance tip is to Disable the Indexing Service.
Mirosoft Windows Vista Indexing Service, runs in the backgroup and it indexes all the files in the Start Menu, User Profile folders etc...
If you are like me most of your files are stored in your User Profile, and if you are also like me you do not spend most of your time searching for files on your computer. So to gain more CPU and Memory resources you might want to turn of the Indexing Service.
You can do this in a number of ways. I wil show you the easiest way.
1: Click Start,
2: Click Control Panel,
3: Click Turn Windows Features on or off,
4: Located the Indexing Service,
5: Uncheck Indexing Service.
6: Click on OK.
There are a number of Advanced indexing options that you can configure, like only indexing certain types of files, and indexing only in certain locations for example disks.
Turning off the Microsoft Windows Vista Indexing Service will slow down searching for files.
